Philip G. Athanas, 64, a lifelong resident of The Dalles, Ore., died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at his residence.  He was born June 27, 1948, in The Dalles, to Jack and Zona (Leabo) Athanas. He was raised and educated in The Dalles, graduating from The Dalles High School in 1966. Following high school he worked in construction until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the Laborers International Union of America Local 320. He was also a licensed firearms dealer and part-time gunsmith. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, had served as state president of Trap and Skeet and was an avid fisherman.  He is survived by his sisters Linda Clark and her husband Les, Tucson, Ariz.; and Susan Earl, Cottage Grove, Ore.; and brother Robert Athanas and his wife Kathy, The Dalles. Numerous nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive.  Services will be Wednesday, June 26, at 10 a.m. at the I.O.O.F. 18th Street Cemetery. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
