Jack C. Shaw (Honorary Class Member)

Jack C. Shaw, a former resident of The Dalles, died on August 29 in Portland from complications of multiple myeloma, an Agent Orange related disease.  He was born in Council, ID and grew up in The Dalles.  He worked at the US Corps of Engineers at The Dalles Dam as a heavy equipment operator.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam war, where he was exposed to the Agent Orange defoiliant.  Survivors include his mother, Louise Shaw, The Dalles; his wife, Kathy Monaghan Shaw, formerly of The Dalles; three children, Jeff Monaghan, Margo Dunn and Stacey Dunn; grandchildren, Andrew, Bryce and Tessa Monaghan; sisters, Kay Meier and Nita Hayes; and brothers, Bill John and James Shaw.  A public celebration of life is set Friday, Sept. 1, between 1 and 3 pm at The Dalles Dam, Ken Patterson Memorial Park.  The celebration will include a tree planting in his memory, donated by co-workers at The Dalles Dam.  Memorials may be made to the Bone Marrow Transplant Registry Fund to aid research funding and to the Patient/Family Fund to aid patients undergoing bone marrow and stem cell  transplants.  They may be sent to Brenda Pizer, Administrator, Box No. CR145, Oregon Health Science University, 3181 SW Sam Jackson Parkway, Portland, OR 97201.
