Dale Lee Buckles, 58, a lifelong resident of The Dalles, died at the local hospital on Saturday, September 3, 2005.  He was born in The Dalles on July 31, 1947, the first of four children to Glen Lee and Dorothy Lucille (Clay) Buckles.  He was raised in The Dalles and attended The Dalles High School.  After high school, he went to California to work.  Later, he went into the US Army for service in the Vietnam war.  Upon returning from the Army, he worked many jobs with his father as a roofer and general laborer.  He met Laura Jester and they married Aug. 3, 1972 at the Community Church in Wishram.  He was a member of Solid Rock Community Church.  He was a youth sports coach, Scoutmaster for Troop 749, merit badge counselor, he volunteered at Camp Baldwin and was Area Coordinator for Hunter Education.  He enjoyed reading, hunting, bowling, he loved his dogs, and was a big baseball fan.  He is survived by his wife, Laura, The Dalles; a son, Donald, The Dalles; a daughter, Amy and her husband Harry Bednarczyk and their daughter Hannah, all of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; a brother, Darrell Buckles; a sister Glenda; his father Glen Buckles and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Buckles and his sister Grace Alford.  At his request, there will be no public services.  Private cremation provided by Winquatt Crematory in The Dalles.  Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America, 111 E. 5th St., The Dalles, OR 97058 or American Diabetes Association, 380 SE Spokane St. #110, Portland, OR 97202.
